Caroll Spinney is Big Bird
And only Carroll Spinney. Hard to believe, but only one man has played the lovable character of Big Bird on Sesame Street. Ever. In 43 years, Spinney has been the only person to occupy the big yellow suit. And it’s not an easy job. At 8 feet tall, how could it be?
Carroll Spinney’s story comes to life, and to the big screen, in a new documentary entitled “I am Big Bird“, a film funded by Kickstarter, and to be premiered this week at the Hot Docs Film Festival in Toronto. With 43 years in a very unique job, the documentary is bound to unveil fascinating secrets about this interesting man & his unlikely job. Among them – the fact that Spinney also brings the character of Oscar the Grouch to life. Talk about multi-tasking.
