Detroit Named “Bar City of the Year”

While Detroit already has a few titles… ‘Detroit Rock City’ and ‘Motor City’ among them, the midwestern hub now has a new one: ‘Bar City of the Year’. In an article to be printed in Esquire‘s June/July issue, the esteemed mag deems Detroit the new it-spot for drinking.

Esquire partnered with cocktail historian David Wondrich to determine what city should take the cake, or should we say cocktail, as being the town for happy hour and more. Among the local bars cited as ‘must visits’ – PJ’s Lager House, Cliff Bell’s (pictured), Old Miami and more.

Detroit Can Dance

This weekend downtown Detroit got taken over. By the club. The Movement Festival moved into Hart Plaza, and won’t be leaving until tonight. With a lineup that includes over 100 artists – among them Action Bronson, Carl Cox, Bonobo, and Flosstradamus – if you like electronic music, this is the festival to put on your map for future years to come. Eminem, Rihanna Announce Tour

With the success of this collaboration, maybe we shouldn’t be too surprised to hear of an Eminem x Rihanna Tour, but we kind of are. Announced in the latest XXL Magazine, Eminem told the publication that summer dates will be on the calendar. But if you’re hoping to catch the two mega stars hit the stage together, you better live in one of three lucky cities. New York, Los Angeles and of course Eminem‘s hometown, Detroit.

Eat What You Listen To

Last week in Detroit, a local chef paid tribute to Radiohead in an unexpected way – through cuisine. Local chef Kyle Hanley worked with sommelier Joseph Allerton to present “A Night with Kid A”. The 10-course meal accompanied the 10-song 2000 album, which, of course, was played as diners feasted on unique cuisine (like oil-poached monkfish, white asparagus, white balsamic vinaigrette & daikon sprouts, with Leelanau Good Harbour Golden Ale).
