Cassette Tapes are So 1992. #Naht

Just when you thought that you would forever have to reference cassette tapes as that endearing technology we bid farewell to with the introduction of the substantially less aesthetically pleasing CD, and eloquently describe this loving device to anyone born in 1990 or later.. well – it might be making a comeback. And it’s not coming back via Apple. Or Google. It’s a little underdog called Sony.

Sony has created a cassette tape (check.) that can hold 185 terabytes of data. #SayWhat?! That’s right. 185 terabytes of data. Just how much data is that? It’s so much that, according to Extreme Tech, it’s hard to even wrap your mind around. How much data is THAT? Let’s just say.. you could save every song, image, screenshot every website you ever visit + about 1 million cat pictures (high res.), and you wouldn’t even scratch (ahem) the surface.

Apocalypse Now: Baby Metal

If you haven’t heard of Baby Metal, you’re about to. No this is not a joke. Not even a little bit. So pay attention. Because maybe we told you first. (Maybe not.)

This teenage trio (age 14-16), dressed in what looks like your little sister’s Hot Topic attire, sings pop music over heavy metal, and has dance moves that ‘match’. Regardless of whether or not you think it’s good, it’s getting popular. The young, dare we say starlets, just got signed to a major recording deal. Their first record came out at the end of February to the tune of 30k copies sold in the first week. And coming up they make their U.K. debut at Sonisphere Festival.

When will the girls land stateside? It’s TBD. But after getting vetted by Megadeath alum Marty Friedman, we’re thinking it won’t be long. What will the American reaction be? Welp.

Caroll Spinney is Big Bird

And only Carroll Spinney. Hard to believe, but only one man has played the lovable character of Big Bird on Sesame Street. Ever. In 43 years, Spinney has been the only person to occupy the big yellow suit. And it’s not an easy job. At 8 feet tall, how could it be?

Carroll Spinney’s story comes to life, and to the big screen, in a new documentary entitled “I am Big Bird“, a film funded by Kickstarter, and to be premiered this week at the Hot Docs Film Festival in Toronto. With 43 years in a very unique job, the documentary is bound to unveil fascinating secrets about this interesting man & his unlikely job. Among them – the fact that Spinney also brings the character of Oscar the Grouch to life. Talk about multi-tasking.
